Recon #5: Nixxy Rain reworks Tali & Stamina MC, Agressor Bunx on Valkyrie, and Gamma back on Dispatch

Breaking out

Five new releases running ahead of their label’s usual this week, on Ranger, Valkyrie, C4C, Lizplay and Dispatch.

Nixxy Rain, one half of SpectraSoul, gives Tali and Stamina MC’s ‘Amongst Kings & Queens’ a rolling liquid rework for Ranger, home to sounds from Australia and New Zealand. Agressor Bunx’s ‘Vampires’ lands on Valkyrie, the London neurofunk label, on a release shared with Crucifyme, Paimon, Phenom and Thelena.

Rift’s ‘Break The Cycle’ carries a golden-era spirit for C4C, a label releasing since 1999. Fr4ktion’s ‘Imagination’ is out on Lizplay Records, from Loja in Granada, and Gamma, formerly of the Hungarian trio Spinline, returns to Dispatch with a six-track EP that includes ‘Respect’.

Simula sets the brutal sound aside for smooth, rolling vocal drum & bass with Javeon on Critical. Magnetude and Task Horizon, two of Evolution Chamber’s founding members, link up on the label for the first time with Yush! for ‘Prayer’.

Fourteen drum & bass events across four continents this Halloween weekend.

Hospital30 returns to Maassilo, a century-old factory in Rotterdam, with Netsky, Metrik, Nu:Tone, Phace and Ed Rush. In Milton Keynes, Worried About Henry brings the fourth edition of its Halloween rave to MK Arena with Andy C, Hybrid Minds, Wilkinson and Friction, whose ‘Me & You’ is in this week’s most played.

Metalheadz, founded in 1994 by Goldie, Kemistry and Storm, take over the Clock Factory in Bristol with Doc Scott, Loxy and J Majik. dnbtherapy open the new Tottenham Arts Collective in London with Congo Natty, Ray Keith and the Ragga Twins, and Drum & Bass Classics heads back to the 1995–2015 era at Concorde 2 in Brighton.

Critical, the label behind ‘Smokescreen’, joins Hit & Run and GASH for a three-floor takeover of Hidden in Manchester, and DJ Millz, moving again on RIGSIDE, joins General Levy, Deekline and Serial Killaz for Jungle Cakes at Brixton Jamm.

Further afield, Shockone and ÆON:MODE go back to back at Dark Machine’s End of Days in Perth, Makoto makes a third Hong Kong appearance with Magnetic Soul, Craze joins Dieselboy in Salt Lake City, and Spacetime’s Trickster Halloween takes over Toronto’s Lithuanian House.

In the small rooms, Tim Reaper plays an extended jungle night in the La Cheetah basement in Glasgow, LSB and DRS bring their Space Age series live to Volks in Brighton, and Wrong Way Home, a new night for emerging artists, launches in Hackney Wick.

Ambion moves on ‘100% Ambion [Dub Showcase]’, a new showcase of dubs that added 2,012 plays.

BCee moves for a third week, again led by Monrroe’s remix of ‘Little Bird’. NKZ is led by ‘Bass’ and the new ‘Xylophone’, and DJ Millz moves for a fifth week, led by a back-to-back with Nicky Blackmarket at Boxpark.
